Dover is the closest point to mainland Europe and Dover Castle has been vital to the defence of England for centuries, it stands 400ft above sea level dates back to the 12th century. You can visit top secret tunnels where military leaders planned World War Two strategies and the evacuation of Dunkirk. Dover boasts a collection of remarkable buildings, fine parks, and of course the world famous White Cliffs, immortalised in the song by Vera Lynn.
